Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men

Page history last edited by Lisa Gordis 16 years, 9 months ago

Bibliographical information:

Pratchett, Terry. The Wee Free Men. New York: Harper Collins, 2003.

Brief summary:

Tiffany Aching is a nine years old and lives on a sheep farm. She has read the dictionary all the way through, reasons clearly, makes good cheese, and is impatient with Wentworth, her annoying younger brother. Also, she wants to be a witch. When the elf Queen kidnaps Wentworth, she sets out to rescue him, with the help of a talking toad and the Nac Mac Feegles, a rowdy group of theiving fairies also known as the wee free men.

Comments:

Pratchett's book is great fun. Tiffany's adventure is exciting, and along the way she learns a great deal about loss and responsibility. But all of this is leavened with puns and smart aleck humor.
