Bibliographical information:

Fleischman, Paul. Glass Slipper, Gold Sandal: A Worldwide Cinderella. Illus. Julie Paschkis.  New York: Henry Holt, 2007.

Brief summary:

Fleischman tells the Cinderella story by splicing together versions of the story from different countries.

Comments:

This is a lovely book. For most of the narrative, the folktales are spliced together without repetition, but at a few key points (for example, in describing Cinderella's shoes), Fleischman includes multiple versions accompanied by multiple illustrations. The richly colored illustrations do the work of indicating where each section of the story originates, and come together in the festive wedding at the story's close, where festive foods from multiple countries are described.

Grade/Age level:

While the primary audience for this book is probably kids ages 4-8, my ten-year-old was interested in both the story and the illustrations.
