Bibliographical information: Patricia Polacco, Mrs. Katz and Tush, Dragonfly Books, 1994
Brief summary: The story begins when a young boy Larnel presents his recently-widowed neighbor with a scruffy kitten. Through the year the celebrate holidays together and, when Tush gets lost, everyone pitches in to find her.
Comments: I like this book because it illustrates an unconventional family. Mrs. Katz and Larnel come from different backgrounds (he is African-American, she is a Jewish immigrant), but they love each other dearly.
Grade/Age level: 4-8
Cautions: none
