Page history last edited by Lisa Gordis 15 years, 4 months ago

Bibliographical information:

Scott, Michael. The Magician. Book 2 of The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. New York: Delacorte, 2008.

Sequel to Michael Scott, The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.

Brief summary:

Sophie and Josh have just escaped Ojai and now find themselves in Paris, trying to elude John Dee and Niccolo Machiavelli and to come to terms with their powers (and possibly their destiny). Meanwhile, Perenelle is trapped on Alcatraz, which has been taken over by Dee and is being guarded by the Sphinx.

Comments:

The mix of mythology, folklore, and historical figures is appealing in this sequel to The Alchemyst, but both my daughter and I found this novel to be more fun. The pacing is a bit more lively, and the relationships are warming up as well, so that we found ourselves caring more about the characters.

Grade/Age level:

Roughly fourth grade and up.

Cautions:

If you like this book, you might also like . . .
