Maud Hart Lovelace, Betsy-Tacy

Page history last edited by Lisa Gordis 16 years, 8 months ago

Bibliographical information:

Lovelace, Maud Hart. Betsy-Tacy. 1940. New York: Harper Trophy, 2000.

Brief summary:

Betsy and Tacy are five-year-olds who live on Hill Street and play together. Together they brave their first day of school and explore the town of Deep Valley.

Comments:

I loved this series as a child, and both of my daughters enjoyed the book very much.

Grade/Age level:

The 2000 edition suggests ages 8 and up, but this works as a read-aloud for ages 5-7.

Cautions:

Tacy's baby sister becomes ill and dies in chapter 8. Betsy comforts Tacy, and they talk about Baby Bee's experience of heaven, but this might be frightening for some children.
