Martha Alexander,  Nobody Asked Me If I Wanted a Baby Sister

Page history last edited by Lisa Gordis 13 years, 3 months ago

Bibliographical information:

Alexander, Martha. Nobody Asked Me If I Wanted a Baby Sister. New York: Dial Books, 1971.

Brief summary:

Oliver is annoyed by all the attention being paid to his baby sister Olivia, so he loads her into his wagon to try to find her a new home. He's won over when she starts crying and refuses to be calmed by anyone but him.

Comments:

The book does a lot of its storytelling through pictures, and might especially appeal to a younger child who isn't comfortable verbalizing feelings of jealousy.

Grade/Age level:

Ages 2-5

Cautions:

With some kids, one would probably want to emphasize that it's not okay to put the baby in a wagon and take her out for a ride, even if you're not trying to give her away.
