Bibliographical information:
Lowry, Lois. The Willoughbys. New York: Walter Lorraine Books, 2008.
Brief summary:
In this send-up of "old-fashioned" children's literature, the Willoughby children concoct a plan to become orphans just as their parents devise a plan to rid themselves of their children.
Comments:
Hilarious! I imagine that children appreciate this on different levels, but as long as they can appreciate that the book is making fun of something, they can feel like they're in on the joke.
Grade/Age level:
Middle school or precocious elementary school (a seven-ish-year-old told me she was enjoying it)
Cautions:
Not for the very, very literal
If you like this book, you might also like . . .
