Page history last edited by Lisa Gordis 12 years, 10 months ago

Bibliographical information:

Yolen, Jane. Foiled. Illus. Mike Cavallaro. New York & London: First Second, 2010.

Brief summary:

This graphic novel features Aliera Carstairs, New York teen fencer. Aliera narrates her story, which she says is about herself, what she learned "while masked," "defense and defenders," power and family (7). Her story includes the hierarchy of teenagers' school and dating life, how that life intersects with (and sometimes competes with) fencing and family obligations, and a mysterious adventure in New York's Grand Central Station.

Comments:

I enjoyed both the story and illustrations, and wasn't quite ready to stop reading at the book's end. Maybe there's a sequel on its way?
