Bibliographical information:

Friedman, Ina R. How My Parents Learned to Eat. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1984.

Brief summary:

The narrator lives in a home in which both chopsticks and knives and forks are used. She explains how her Japanese mother and American father met and learned each other's foodways.

Comments:

This is a sweet story. I suspected that my six-year-old might find it surprising, given how varied food and utensils are in our neighborhood. But she enjoyed both the story and the illustrations.
