Bibliographical information:
Paulsen, Gary. Lawn Boy. New York: Wendy Lamb Books, 2007.
Brief summary:
The narrator's grandmother gives him an old riding mower for his birthday. While he's mowing the family lawn, a neighbor hires him to mow his lawn as well. More jobs follow, including a stock broker low on cash who pays in stock and also helps the narrator expand his business.
Comments:
The events are funny and fast-paced, with engaging characters and a few lessons about business thrown in as well.
Grade/Age level:
Grades 3-6
Cautions:
The novel is quite clear that the narrator profits from some very unlikely circumstances, but some kids might need to have the workings of the stock market and the perils of running a business explained.
