Brief summary:
The Barnett family is heading off for a vacation by the lake, but Molly and Adam are feeling some trepidation. Their father's thirty-fifth birthday is tomorrow, and Barnett men have been dropping dead just before their thirty-fifth birthdays for generations. When Dr. Barnett is delayed by a crisis at her hospital, Molly and Adam are left to protect their dad from the mysterious curse that seems to afflict their family. At the cottage, they meet up with their grandfather's ghost, who helps them to protect their father, but leaves them with lingering questions for the next book.
Comments:
There's scary fun here. Molly and Adam must face their fears, and there's some amusing play with ghost story conventions.
Grade/Age level:
Grades 4-8
Cautions:
The prospect of losing a parent--and of being responsible for protecting a parent--might be frightening for some kids.
