Bibliographical information:
Clements, Andrew. Frindle. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1996.
Brief summary:
Nick Allen is that kid everyone knows who is full of funny, creative, and somewhat troublesome ideas, but unlike most kids, he is adept at carrying them out, much to the supposed chagrin of his teacher. When Nick has the idea of calling pens "frindles," just to see if it will work, it does - on a national scale.
Comments:
In addition to being truly entertaining, Frindle is capable of getting kids to really think. It can get them thinking about the nature of language and how it is created. It can also get them to think about what ideas can do and how one person, even one young person, can change the way things are.
Grade/Age level:
Ages 8-12
